Mideast News Flash
For February 8, 2012
Editor's Note: The situation in the Middle East is extremely tenuous and fast-moving in unpredictable directions. We're still trying to get an accurate handle on whether or not war is imminent. While we think war is not imminent, there are numerous factors and intelligence reports suggesting otherwise. We're still compiling intelligence reports on when (not if) military action will take place, but it does seem sooner rather than later in the year. We can characterize Israeli leadership nerves to be rather "jumpy" and the situation is very fluid. Things could change on a dime at a moment's notice. Stay tuned. The following is a listing of the latest key developments in the Middle East.

Iran Official Warns:
US, Israel Vulnerable to Counterattack
The United States and Israel are in no position to launch a military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities because of their high susceptibility to retaliatory attacks from the Islamic Republic, a senior Iranian military commander said Tuesday.
The Tehran Times quoted Jazayeri as saying that Iran will continue to pursue its objectives without considering, what he referred to as, Washington's policy of "carrot and stick."
The senior Revolutionary Guard official made the comments in response to remarks made by US President Barack Obama on Sunday in which he stated that diplomacy and not military action was the "preferred solution" to the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.
