Syrian Navy Bombards Own Port City
In an effort to shut down the revolt against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Syrian Navy warships bombarded its own port city of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast.
Syrian warships trained their gones on two densely populated residential neighborhoods in the port city of Latakia on Sunday. Syrian Army tanks are also roaming the city firing their own cannons into civilian targets during a weekend campaign to halt the revolt in the port city. As many as six people have reportedly been killed with dozens more wounded.
Latakia is a port city that is home to much of the Syrian Navy. Latakia is also being transformed into a port city for the Russian Navy after new treaties were signed in the last few years. New docking facilities are under construction for elements of the Russian Navy. For more on this story, LINK HERE.
